This is a collection of papers that examine the current place of the Treaty of Watangi in core public policy areas. The authors analyse the tensions and dynamics in the relationship between Maori and the Crown in their areas of expertise, detail the key challenges being faced, and provide insights on how these can be overcome. Veronica Tawhai (Ngati Porou, Ngati Uepohatu) is a lecturer of Maori development at the School of Maori Studies, Massey University. Her PhD explores political engagement and education in bi-political states and seeks to construct a framework for citizenship education in Aotearoa New Zealand. Katarina Gray-Sharp (Ngati Rangi, Ngati Raukawa, Ngati Kauwhata, Ngati Rangiwewehi) is a kaitautoko Maori at Massey University and is working on her doctorate.
